The Andrew Jackson Volunteers relied on fundamentals to become the Upper State Class AA champions with their win over Silver Bluff at Bon Secours arena in Greenville on Friday Night. The Volunteers used careful use of passing and clock management seal the victory. The Vol defense stopped the normally high scoring Bulldogs.
The Volunteers tied the Bulldogs 13 – 13 in the first quarter. The game shifted to the Vols in the second quarter with the score of 36-23 at the half. The Vols kept the lead in the third quarter with 11 more points than the Bulldogs 47-36. The Vols finished strong with a 19 point victory 66-47.
Jalen Robinson was the lead scorer for the Volunteers with 18 points on 6 goals and 2 treys. Jamie Hinson had 10 points. Joey Walters added 9 points. DJ Ealey had 8 points. Jawquinn Black had 7 points. Shiheme Ricks added 3points. Tyrone Gilford and OJ White each had 2 points. The Vols made 9 of 14 free throws
The Vols will travel to play Gray Collegiate on Saturday, March 2nd for the state title. The last time the Volunteers were in the State Championship was 1980, which they won.
