The Andrew Jackson Volunteers scored two road wins over the Chesterfield Rams on Friday night. The Lady Vols scored 44-40 over Lady Rams. The Volunteers dominated with a 19 point victory 60-41.
In both games the ability to grab the offensive rebound and make a score served the Volunteers well as they played the Rams. Equally valuable was grabbing the defensive rebounds to keep the Rams from scoring on a putback.
The Lady Volunteers got off to a slow start in their matchup. The typical energy of the team was not evident. The Lady Rams were able to score effectively from the outside. The Lady Vols trailed 9-16 at the end of the first quarter. At the half the Lady Vols were trailing by just 2 points 21-23. In the third quarter, the Lady Vols continued to trail the Lady Rams 34-36. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Vols advance into the lead. The final score was Lady Vols 44 and Lady Rams 40.
Osha Black took lead scoring honors for the Lady Vols with 15 points on 3 goals, 2 treys and 3 of 4 free throws. Caroline Wren had 13 points on 5 goals, one trey. Iesha Williams had 9 points. Makenzie Marshall added 5 points. Annsley Vick had 2 points.
The Lady Vols head coach Olivia Gaines commented on the game. “We did what we were suppose to do on offense, but the defense didn’t impress me. We have to do better on the defensive end, but overall I am proud of how we came back. I would like the energy to be there from the jump.”
Zytipha Joines was lead scorer for the Lady Rams with 14 points.
The Vols took control of the court early and with intense rebounding and putbacks took a commanding lead through the first half. The Vols took the first quarter 15 to 6 points. The second half saw the Vols limit the Rams to 3 points as they added 13 points to lead 28-9. The advantage remained with the Vols through three, 41-28. The game ended with the Vols ahead 60 to the Rams 41.
Jawquinn Black was the lead scorer for the Vols with 16 points. On 7 goals and 2 of 3 free throws. Jalen Robinson landed 6 goals and 1 of 2 free throws to add 13 points. Jamie Hinson had 10 points. Tyrone Gilford had 9 points. DJ Ealey added 4 points. OJ White and Josh Adams each had 3 points. Shiheme Ricks had 2 points.
D. Bowen was lead scorer for the Rams with 9 points
The Volunteers will travel to Lewisville on the 31st of January.
