The Andrew Jackson Volunteers hosted the Lee Central Stallions in Kershaw on Tuesday evening. The Boys lost 57-61 in overtime, and the girls lost by one point 46-47. The Stallions and Lady Stallions presented a fast paced and high pressure defense which the Volunteers had difficulty with managing.

The Volunteers trailed throughout the game, working diligently to keep the score within reach. Lee Central led the first quarter 15-12. At the half Lee Central expanded their lead to 5 points, 27-22. The Vols battled back and tied the score a number of times in the third quarter, but were 2 points shy at the end of the quarter 41-39. At the end of regulation, the teams were tied at 49 each. A four minute overtime was played. The Vols took an early lead in OT, but quickly lost the advantage and lost the game 61-57.

The Lady Vols started off strong in the first half of their game. The first quarter had the Lady Vols ahead by one point 12-11. At the half, the Lady Vols had a 5 point lead 25-20. The third quarter saw the lead swing towards the Lady Stallions 37-33. The final score was a close win for the Lady Stallions 47-46.

Lady Vols head coach Olivia Gaines said. “No leadership last night. We were not able to make free throws, their defense wasn’t impressive.” The feeling she expressed was that not everyone came to play. “We committed our own turnovers. A lot of late clock situations we choked on and we work on those things often so it is disappointing as well.” Gaines is looking forward to the next game

Caroline Wrenn was the Lady Vols lead scorer with 15 points on 3 goals, 1 trey, and 6 of 10 free throws. Iesha Williams had 14 points. Osha Black, Lexi Roberson, and Oksana Lathan each had 2 points.

Tashana Harris was lead scorer for the Lady Stallions with 15 points.

The Volunteers host North Central High School on Friday Jan 18th.
