Makeup Days for LCSD

Make-up days for students

•  The student make-up day for Sept. 14 will be a half-day for students Monday, Oct. 22, listed as a professional day on the calendar. After students leave, professional development will begin.

– State law only allows three half days so Jan. 11 will become a full day so we can use Oct. 22 as a half day.

•  The student make-up day for Sept. 17 will be a full day Jan. 14, listed now as half workday for teachers.

– The other option was to use Wednesday, Nov. 21 – the day before Thanksgiving break – as the make-up day. We wanted to avoid using that day, if possible.

– Using Jan. 14 will keep Feb. 18 and March 11 as possible make-up daysand reduce the chances of our needing to do make-up during spring break.

•  Jan. 14 will now be the first day of second semester so we can keep exams on the Thursday and Friday before.

– First semester will now be 89 days and second semester will be 91 days, but we still have adequate instructinal minutes in first semester to meet state requirements.

•  State law requires us to make up three days before our board can waive up to three make-up days.

– After those three days, the State Board of Education may be petitioned to waive making up additional days missed.
