FLASH FLOOD WARNING issued for Lancaster

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…

Lancaster County in central South Carolina…

Chesterfield County in central South Carolina…

Northern Kershaw County in central South Carolina…

* Until 215 PM EDT.

* At 822 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the

warned area. Between two and three inches of rain has already

fallen across central and eastern portions of Chesterfield county,

and the rain bands that have produced those amounts are moving

into Lancaster and Northern Kershaw county. With the additional

heavy rainfall expected through the morning in these counties,

Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…

Lancaster, Cheraw, Pageland, Kershaw, Chesterfield, Elgin, Heath

Springs, Irwin, Mcbee, Jefferson, Ruby, Patrick, Bethune, Mount

Croghan and Lancaster Mill.

Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible in the

warned area.

Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through a flooded

roadway or around barricades. Turn around, don’t drown.

Flash flooding will occur near creeks and streams, urban areas,

streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying

spots. Keep children away from storm drains and culverts. Avoid

traveling in the warned area.
