Kershaw at night during Hurricane Florence.

I took a drive out past the school on 521. And then through town. Now sitting in the IGA parking lot. A light rain is falling, and occasional gust rock the car.

Gus’ house of Pizza is open with many trucks parked there. trucks and cars drive past frequently. The roads are clear and power seems on throughout town.

The storm is much like a gusty summer storm. Unless you knew the name of the storm, you might mistake it for just a passing thunderstorm.

Kershaw seems to be taking this in stride. It is not what we expected it to be at this hour. The night is young, and conditions will likely worsen. I can’t help but think we may be going to have a glancing blow here.

That does not mean to let our guard down. We need to remain vigilant and prepared. As I said the night is young and there is lots of yellow and orange on the weather radar.

My hope is that at sunrise Kershaw will be just a wet town ready to open for business on Monday. Be safe and keep dry.
