Red Rose Farmers Market Arrives in the Cultural Arts District of Lancaster, SC on May 17, 2018

Visit the Red Rose Farmers Market happening the third Thursday of every month from May through October in the Cultural Arts District of Lancaster, SC.  The market will be held at the County Administration Parking Lot at 101 N. Main Street, located at the intersection of Main and Meeting Streets.  The City of Lancaster, Lancaster County, and Eat Smart Move More Lancaster County are sponsoring the Red Rose Farmers Market that will start at 4:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm on May 17June 21July 19August 16September 20, and October 18.

Farmers markets provide opportunities for residents to buy fresh, locally grown food, support local farms, and offer healthy food choices.  Several local farmers will be participating in the Downtown Farmers Market and those producing functional artwork, handcrafted soaps, fresh honey are invited to participate.  “Parking lot pickers” are also welcome to enjoy market evenings while sharing their musical talent with visitors and shoppers.

Farmers markets are designed to be an easy way for residents to pick up what they need to make a healthy family meal and attract visitors to the Cultural Arts District, where a multitude of arts opportunities, interesting shops, and casual dining abound.

Those participating in the Red Rose Farmers Market will offer an assortment of seasonal, locally grown vegetables, fruits, and berries.  Look for freshly harvested produce such as okra, peppers, pumpkins, cucumbers, beans, corn, and watermelons.  Also look for items such as handcrafted soap and functional artwork, local honey, farm-raised meats, and scratch-made bakery items.

Farmers markets help improve access to healthy food for disadvantaged communities, often referred to as ‘food deserts.’ Lancaster County has four Census Tracts around the City of Lancaster that are currently categorized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as food deserts.
