Lady Vols Dominate Central Eagles in Home Game

The Andrew Jackson Lady Vols kept their winning streak alive by beating the Central Lady Eagles 67-22 in the Tuesday night home game. The boys fought hard, but came up 3 points short in their game against the Eagles, 76-73.

The Lady Vols took command with a six-point lead in the first quarter 16-10. When they added an additional 10 unanswered points in the second, they brought the score to 30-14 at the half.  In the third quarter, the Lady Vols outscored the Lady Eagles 21-1 to bring the third quarter score to 51-15. The scoring drive continued to the final with the score being 67-22.

With 7 seconds left in the game, a player for Central threw a ball at Lady Vols’ player Anna Hinson’s face. Anna reacted by pushing the player down. Two of Central’s players and Anna were ejected from the game. Technical fouls were assessed on Shiyanna Threatt and Desta’Nee Chambers of Central.  A Technical foul was also assessed on Anna Hinson of AJ.

Danielle Ussery once again was a lead scorer for the Lady Vols with 24 points coming from 3 field goals and 6 treys. Makaylen Crosby was close behind with 23 points off 10 field goals and one trey. Raegan Brewer added in 10 points. Maddie Catoe dropped in 4 points. Osha Black, Iesha Williams, and Anna Hinson each had 2 points

“We just have to stay composed. In crucial situations, you have to stay composed.” Said coach ShaRon Robinson, in response to the situation with Anna Hinson.  “Offense and defense went very well, we moved the ball very well, shared the ball a lot. Eighteen assists is pretty darn good. We are trying to keep the streak.”

AJ had 18 team fouls, one technical, one ejection, and 8 turnovers. Central has 15 team fouls, 2 technical fouls, 2 ejections and 18 turnovers.

Vanderpool was Lady Eagles high scorer with 11 points.

The first quarter of the Boys game belonged the Central Eagles.  They outscored the Vols 22-13. The Vols caught some fire in the second quarter and fought to a lead with seconds left in the half. The score at the half was 32-31 in favor of Vols.  They continued into the third quarter to maintain a slim lead, at the end of three, the score was 57-53. The lead changed much more in the final quarter. AJ lost the lead but fought to a tie at 61 with 4:02 left in the game. Griffin Gardner brought it back to a tie with 3:20 left in the game. The score was 72-70 with 53 seconds left. OJ White was fouled with 36 seconds left, he made one of two to bring the score to 74-71. It was looking promising when White dropped in a layup with 15 seconds left on the clock, the score was 74-73. As the Eagles brought the ball back into play, Jamie Hinson was called for a foul, and Kevon Wall made two free throws to bring the final score to 76-73.

Jamie Hinson was the lead scorer for the Vols with 26 points from 3 field goals, 4 treys and 8 of 10 free throws that included 5 of 6 points from technical free throws. Joey Walters was a close second in scoring with 22 points. Morgan Truesdale added in a respectable 11 points. Jalen Robinson dropped in 8 points. Cam Vincent added 3 points. And Griffin Gardner added 2 points from three throws.

Coach Danny Wright of AJ said “We missed a couple of free throws down the stretch we should have hit. Overall proud of my guys, they gave it everything they got. We are getting better each game and each practice.”

AJ had 20 team fouls and 13 turnovers. Eagles had 22 team fouls, three technical fouls, and 12 turnovers. Kevon Wall was the lead scorer for Eagles with 20 points.

AJ has a regional home game against Cheraw on Friday night.  Central plays a home game on Wednesday the 24th against Lee Central in a game rescheduled due to weather.
