The Andrew Jackson Middle School boys and girls teams won decisive victories in Basketball on Wednesday night at AJHS. The girls won a ten point game 23-13, and the boys won with a 16 point lead 37-21.
The Volunteer girls took an early lead in the first quarter 6-2. At the half, the Volunteers were leading 9-6. The third quarter saw the lead extend to 17-9, and the final score was 23-13
Lexi Robinson was lead scorer for the girls with 14 points (4 field goals, and 6 free throws made), Caroline Hammond found 3 field goals for a total of 6 points. Lexi Haven scored 2 points, Graceann Blackmon had one point.
Avery Plyler was lead scorer for the Buford girls.
The AJMS boys took the 7 point lead in the first quarter 10-3. At the half, they allowed only two Buford points and extended their lead by another 5 points to 17-5 at the half. Both teams scored well in the third quarter with AJ outscoring Buford by only one point, third quarter score 29-16. The final score of the game was 37-21 in favor of AJ.
Sowell was AJ Boys lead scorer with 10 points. Peavy dropped in 6 points. J. Newkirk had 5 points, Watkins added 3 to the total. And Watts had 2 points in the game.
Williams and K. Johnson shared points leader for Buford with 6 each
